Carlton Irons Pippin Obituary
Carlton Irons Pippin went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 19,2016, in Kent General Hospital. He was 90.

Carlton was born, August 20, 1925, in Templeville, MD, to the late Titus & Ella(Davis) Pippin.

Carlton served proudly in the United States Army, during WW II. After his honorable discharge from the military; he attended and graduated from H.E.Dolan Mortuary College, in Philadelphia. Then he delved into various endeavors throughout his life. Carlton drove for Preston Motors, worked for General Motors, in Newport, DE; owned a grocery/hardware store at Pearsons Corner during the 1950's; and owned Avenue Motors from the late 1960's to early 1970's. He later went on to work for the D.M.V. for the State of Delaware for 25 years ,as a lane supervisor, before retiring in 1987. Concurrently he also served as a memorial counselor for Sharon Hills Memorial Park, from the early 1980's till 2012.

Carlton was very athletic in his younger years, and had played semi-pro baseball, having tried out for the Philadelphia Athletics; and becoming good friends with Sammy Dell Foxx, brother of Hall of Famer Jimmy Foxx. He also played semi-pro soccer as a goal tender for the Eastern Shore, Maryland.

He was also very involved in Kent County, Delaware politics, serving as a Democratic Committeeman, and running for Kent County Sheriff, in 1986.

Carlton was a member of Capitol Baptist Church in Dover; and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret(Condron) Pippin; a daughter, Kathy Pippin; a brother, Allen Pippin; and a sister, Marjorie Pippin.

He is survived by his son, Gary Wayne Pippin & his wife, Lisa and his caregiver, Yaya Bruce.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, January 26, 2016, in Pippin Funeral Home, Inc., 119 West Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming; where family and friends may view from 11am to 1 pm. Burial will follow in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover.
