Richard Edward Suttles, "Little Bear," 78, of Durant since 1999, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the VA CLC in Bonham, Texas. He was born in Erlanger, Kentucky to Noah E. (Nichols) Suttles and Bertha (Seward) Suttles. He married Dusty Montgomery on September 16, 2000, in Caddo. Mr. Suttles was in the U.S. Army and the U.S.M.C. He proudly served his country in the Korean War. Later, he was in law enforcement for a number of years.
Mr. Suttles is survived by his wife, Dusty, of the home; his children: Sharon, Carolyn, Rhonda and Randy of Kentucky; his brother, Don Suttles and wife Joann of NC; his step-son, Robert Harrison, wife Lisa and step-grandchildren Shelby and Paxton of Texas, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his two sisters, Dorothy Suttles of Florida and Sharon Swafford of Ohio.
Richard, of Cherokee descent, enjoyed making Native American crafts and had a booth at the Junction Flea Market in the past. He cherished his friendships with the owners, vendors and customers. He looked forward to taking day trips and fishing when he got the chance. Up until his hospitalization, he could be found welcoming the sunrise most every day, in all kinds of weather, from his glider in his front yard.
Family memorial services celebrating his life will be held at a later date. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Brown's Funeral Service in Durant.
