Elmer Beshearse

Elmer Beshearse, age 84, passed away in Idabel Tuesday, October 1, 2013. He was born on February 23, 1929 in Calera, OK, the son of Bethel Beshearse and Nora Page Beshearse. Elmer was a valedictorian of his high school graduating class of 1947 in Calera.

He received his Bachelors and Masters degree from Southeastern State University in Durant, OK. He served in the Korean War. In 1955 he was employed by the Department of Defense as a high school teacher in different countries including Germany, Panama, Japan, Philippines and Okinawa.

He retired here to be near his relatives. He was a member of the Calera Masonic Lodge and also a member of the Church of Christ. He enjoyed jogging at the Idabel football stadium, growing tomato plants in his front yard, eating at the Idabel Nutritional Center and attending the Bypass Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Ewin McNally.

Elmer leaves to cherish his memory two sisters; Ellen Dollarhide of Idabel, OK and Emma Lee Furlow of Denison, Texas. Three nieces; Ginger D. Kelly of Idabel, Jennifer Brech England, Susan Slagle of Sherman, Texas; three nephews Richard, Donald and Gary. Elmer helped many young people financially pursue their dreams including Dr. Ambrocia Beshearse, Gilbert Beshearse and Wendy Asuncion. He also leaves many friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 4, 2013 at Norwood-Nation Funeral Home Chapel 1201 East Lincoln Road, Idabel, OK. He will be laid to rest that afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Calera, Oklahoma.
