Ron "Ronnie" Cobbs, 64, of Durant, Ok. passed away on Saturday March 29, 2014. One day after his 64th birthday. In Durant, Ok at MCSO after a 7 month courageous battle with Cancer. He was born March 28, 1950 in Bakersfield, Ca. to James Edward Cobbs and Mabel (Brewer) Cobbs. He was the youngest of nine children.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army, Vietnam War. Honorably discharged in 1971, rank Sgt. E-5. In 1979 he met his wife Catharine and they had been together for 35 yrs. Ron had been a Truck Driver for 35 yrs. until his illness in late August of 2013. From 1979 to 2005 he drove tanker trucks hauling petroleum products out of Bakersfield, California.

After his move to Durant, Ok. On Dec. 1, 2005 he went to work as a driver for the Big Lots Distribution Center in Durant, March of 2006. Ron loved to fish and enjoyed a good boat ride with his brother-in-law Jonas Smith. He also had a fondness for the slot machines. Said "it made him relax".

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Mabel, 2 brothers LeeRoy and Walter Cobbs, 3 sisters Louise Craghead, Jennie Smith Geraldene Ward and nephew, Danny Smith. Father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Lena Duffy. He helped care for Thomas and Lena until their passing in 2000 and 2010 respectively.

He is survived by wife Catharine, Durant, Ok., son and daughter-in-law Justin and Morgan Cobbs of Bakersfield, Ca., son Jason Cobbs and son Kyle Cobbs of Durant, Ok. Brother's and sister-in-laws, Carl and Elaine Cobbs, Apple Valley, Ca., Wayne and Marilyn Cobbs, La Puente, Ca., brother, James Leon Cobbs, Lake Isabella, Ca. brother-in-law, Jonas Smith, Pontiac, Mo. Also surviving Ron, 3 grandchildren, Britany, Clayton and Ethan Cobbs. Many nieces and nephew will remember their Uncle "Ronnie fondly. As will his extended family of in-laws: Lou and Madeline Amundson, Eagle River Alaska, Loretta Duffy of Idaho, Brenda and Terry Beeler, Sleepy Valley, Ca. Many people loved this gentle man and he will be deeply missed. Ron had made many great friends during his driving years…."Thank you guys for always being there".

A Register Book will be available for family and friends who wish to pay their respects at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Durant, Ok.

Funeral services will be held in Bakersfield, Ca. Greenlawn Cemetery, 3700 River Blvd. Monday April 7, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., with brother-in-law Pastor Lou Amundson officiating.
