Philip Henry Woodruff passed away April 27, 2014 at the Colorado State Veterans Nursing Home in Rifle, Colorado at the age of 81. Philip was born on June 20, 1932 to Roy and Bessie Woodruff in Le Roy, Kansas. Philip married Mary Rierdon on July 16, 1955 in Durant, Oklahoma. They moved from Durant to the North Fork area over 50 years ago. Philip and Mary had two children, a son, Henry, and a daughter, Grace.

Philip served in the Army, where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant. He was involved in the Korean War and was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Philip taught Business and American History for 25 years at Hotchkiss High School. He was well known in the Hotchkiss community for his sense of humor, kindness, and charismatic personality. His love for horseback riding, hunting and fishing in the West Elk wilderness was an essential part of his life.

Philip is survived by his wife, Mary, of Hotchkiss; his son, Henry Woodruff of Naples, Italy; and his daughter, Grace Whitmer of Brighton, Colorado. He is also survived by a sister, Anne Brown, and a granddaughter, Emily Whitmer. Philip was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Bessie; and a sister, Phyllis Taylor.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 1:00 pm at Zach's Pavillion in Hotchkiss, Colorado.
