Jimmie Lee Jones, age 78, departed this life April 17th, 2014. His beloved and cherished wife, Beth Bailey Jones, was by his side. Mr. Jones was born on February 11th, 1936 in Johnson, Arkansas, the baby of nine children, parents Isaac Burton Jones and Hetty Saylor. After graduating from Berry Hill High School, outside of Tulsa, he received a basketball scholarship to Tulsa University and earned a B.A in Business. He was in the Letterman's Club and is in the Golden Hurricanes Hall of Legends. Mr. Jones established his own oil company, Fore Inc., in Durant in 1968. After retiring from the oil business he purchased Geo's Drive-In where he was owner and operator for nine years. He was a longtime member of Durant Country Club and more recently Silverado. Jim loved traveling the United States with his wife Beth and their close friends, playing golf, fishing and hunting. He was a true athlete with a competitive nature, but will be remembered by many as a kind, generous, and loving soul. His two daughters, step-son and five grandchildren were his source of pride and joy.
Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his wife Doris Ann Armstrong, brothers Harvey Jones, Burton Jones, Kenneth Jones, and sisters Mildred Frederick and Margaret Perona. Survivors are his wife Beth Bailey Jones, brothers Richard Jones and Norman Jones, both of Tulsa, one sister Frances Smith also of Tulsa, daughters Sheryl Lynn Grider of Conifer, Colorado, Jill Anne Spencer of Tecumseh, step-son Hatton Humphrey of Wilson, New York, sons-in-law Bruce Grider and Jim (Bubba) Spencer Jr., daughter-in-law Sarah Humphrey, grandchildren Courtney and Luke Grider, Benjamin Spencer, Elizabeth and C.J. Humphrey.
Family visitation will be on Sunday, April 20th
at Brown's Funeral Service in Durant from 6-8pm. Mass will be held at St. Williams Catholic Church in Durant at 10:30am on Monday, April 21st
