Ernest Winnett

Ernest Edward Winnett a resident of Colbert, Oklahoma and beloved family member passed from this life in Denison, Texas on Thursday, May 15, 2014, at the age of 74 years 10 months and 11 days. He was born in Colbert, Oklahoma on July 4, 1939 to Willie Calvin and Goldie (Chelf) Winnett. Ernest married Vera Jo Duncan in Calera, Oklahoma on Tuesday, June 13, 1961.

Ernest served his country and community in the United States Army from 1962 thru 1964. He had a strong work ethic and could always be found working on something. Ernest was a carpenter by trade but also enjoyed woodworking in his spare time. He was a member of the Victory Life Church. Ernest liked to be outside camping, fishing, or working in his garden, and also enjoyed collecting John Deere Tractors. He was proud of his large family and cherished the time they spent together.

Those left to cherish Ernest's memory are his wife Vera Jo of the home; daughters, Velma Winnett, Brenda and Mickey Martin and Betty and Ronnie Shoemake; granddaughters, Heather and Cory Wesolowski, Chelsea and Nick Allen and Katie Martin; grandson, Caleb Shoemake; great granddaughters, Summer and Ava Allen and Lanie Wesolowski; great grandsons, Kade Allen and Dominic Wesolowski; brothers, Calvin and Joy Winnett, Jerry and Cheryl Winnett, Melvin and Gloria Winnett and Tommy and Veronica Winnett; sisters, Wanda and T.G. Johnston, Linda Kemper and Mary and Mike Emberling; sister-in-law, Annie Winnett; brother-in-laws, Danny Duncan, Benny Duncan, Steve and Rena Duncan and Aaron South; a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews and special friends Jim and Judy Smallwood.

Mr. Winnett was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Goldie Winnett; brother, John Winnett; grandson, Zachary Martin; sister-in-law, Birdie South; brother-in-law, Benny Kemper; niece, Carol Kemper; nephew, John Duncan.

Family Hour will be from 3-4:00 PM Sunday, May 18, 2014 at the Holmes ~ Coffey ~ Murray Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma. A celebration of his life will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, May 19, 2014 at the Colbert First Baptist Church in Colbert, Oklahoma with Pastor Ann Lewis and Pastor Lee Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories in Colbert, Oklahoma. The Pallbearers will be Randall South, Tommy South, Calvin South, Jeremy Winnett, Mike Winnett and John Winnett Jr. Honorary Pallbearers will be Stevie Ben Duncan, Bobby Duncan, Jaron Duncan and David Duncan.
