Norman Clyde Combes a resident of Durant, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday May 18, 2014 and went home to be with the Lord. He was born on December 17, 1924 to Clyde and Maude (Grimes) Combes in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Norman proudly served his country and community in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict for 11 months then he married Nelladel Ruggles on October 31, 1951 in Durant, Oklahoma. He worked for O G & E for 41 years with a perfect driving record in Ada, Shawnee and Durant. Norman loved fishing with his fishing partner Bud Young. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church for 60 years. He loved gardening, traveling with his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Sue and Ernest, and helping his wife of 62 years around the house. But the greatest joy in his life came on July 19, 1995 with the birth of his only grandchild Brianna. Norman loved taking care of her, playing with her, picking her up at school, helping her with her homework, listening to her practicing trumpet and giving her his truck when she turned 16.
Mr. Combes is survived by his loving wife of the home; daughter, Norma Dell and Don Teel of Durant, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Brianna Teel of Durant, Oklahoma; brother, Paul Combes of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and a host of great friends and special friends James and Joyce Lynn.
Mr. Combes was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Maude Combes; infant son; 1 brother and 7 sisters.
A Funeral Service in his honor will be held Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant, Oklahoma with the Reverends Dale Ruggles and Darel Bunch officiating. Pallbearers will be Jim Stewart, James Lynn, J.C. Brown, Glendel Rushing, Ken Ruyal, Steve Dill and Alvin Davis. The Honorary pallbearers will be Norman's Sunday School Class at Calvary and O G & E retirees.
