Melba D. Wood was born July 24, 1938 in Gaar Corner, Oklahoma to Buell Bishop and Edith (Maddox) Jackson and entered into eternal rest on June 6, 2014 at her home in Mead, Oklahoma at the age 75 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Melba attended school at Vanoss in Pontotoc County and later married Robert L. Wood on May 12, 1956 in Stratford. They were blessed with 55 years together until Robert's death on January 24, 2012. Melba retired from the Medical Center of SE OK as the dietary supervisor. She was a faithful member of the Mead Baptist Church and the West Bryan County FD Auxiliary. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Melba was preceded in death by her parents, Buell and Edith Jackson; husband, Robert L. Wood; brother, Bobby Jackson and sisters, Rita McCurtain and Doris Louellen Jackson.

Melba is survived by her sister, Patricia Law and husband Max of Stratford, OK; children, Jeff Wood and wife Norma of Ardmore, OK, Lisa Horner and husband Frank of Oakland, OK and Anita McMahan of Mead, OK; brother-in-law, Eugene Wood and wife Charlotte of Eufaula, OK; grandchildren, Amanda Fowler, Candice Wood, Amy Walden and husband Mychal, Jesse McMahan, Travis Wood and wife Emery and Lacy Roberts and husband Bo; great grandchildren, Aaron Christopher, Sierra Mullens, Julianne Walser, Garrett Walser, Brooklyn McMahan, Angelina Fowler, Anthony Fowler, Nathan Wood, Nicholas Tipton, Kaisyn Wood, Riley Jo Roberts and Brandon Walden.

Services to celebrate Melba's life will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Mead Baptist Church with Bro. Kerry Groce officiating. Interment will follow in Mead Cemetery with Brent Greenwood, Travis Wood, Darrell McCurtain, John McCurtain, Robert McCurtain, Mychal Walden and Greg Law serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Monday evening from 6-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Mead Baptist Church of the .
