Stella Langham

Stella Langham was born on December 30, 1920 in Clarksville, Texas to Melvin Author and Cora Ida Vest and passed from this life on June 9, 2014 in Calera at the age of 93 years, 5 months and 10 days.

Stella was blessed to be born into a large family who grew up loving each other. At the age of one, Stella moved to Pleasant Hill in Bryan County and has lived in Bryan County most of her life. She married Harold D. Langham on May 20, 1938 and was blessed with two children, Cora May (Langham) Whittenburg and Harold Ray Langham. Stella was of the Baptist faith and lifelong member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Durant. She lived life to the fullest enjoying her family and friends everyday. Stella loved to sing gospel hymns, laugh and make others laugh, loved playing practical jokes and planning the annual Vest Family reunion was the highlight of her year. Stella was the last of her generation but leaves behind a large number of nieces of whom she expects to carry on the family traditions.

Stella was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Cora Vest; husband, Harold D. Langham; children, Cora May Whittenburg and Harold Ray Langham; sisters, Eathel Speers, Ollie Damron, Gladys Furtick, Louvina McMeekan, Myrtle Walters, Odessa Haggerty and baby Olan; brothers, LeRoy (Bud) Vest, Troy Vest, Shelby Vest, Delbert Vest and Eugene Vest.

Stella is survived by her grandchildren, Jan Prentice and husband Roger, Billy Whittenburg and wife JoAnn, Jackie Tarr and husband Gene and Glenda Langham; daughter-in-law, Kathy Langham and many great and great great grandchildren.

A celebration of Stella's life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at the Calvary Baptist Church with Bro. Delbert Vest and Bro. Darel Bunch officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Cemetery with great grandsons, Aubie Tarr, Brandon Tarr, Matt Tarr, Michael Burge, Kaleb Burge, Cody Whittenburg and Justin Whittenburg serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Tuesday evening from 7-8 PM.
