Joan A. (Marnell) Minks a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother returned home on June 17, 2014. She was born on September 27, 1947 in Hereford, TX. to Forest and Edna Marnell. Joan graduated as a registered nurse from St. Anthony's School of Nursing in Amarillo, TX., and on June 7, 1968 married her high school sweetheart Lawrence Minks. The couple lived in university communities in a half dozen states over the course of their 46 years together, where they also raised their four children; Laura, Amanda, Joy, and Aaron.
Joan's peaceful, unconditional, humble, caring spirit and happiness immediately enveloped all who crossed her path. She was an artist, quilter, gardener, and woman of profound faith sharing her love and gifts with everyone she met.
Joan was a stalwart member of St. Williams Catholic Church and co-founder of St. Catherine's Food Bank in Durant.
Joan is survived by her husband Larry; daughter Laura Minks and husband Rey Ford of Longmont, CO; daughter Amanda Minks and husband Alvaro Baca of Norman, OK; daughter Joy Minks of Scottsdale, AZ; son Aaron Minks and wife Karin Minks of Luang Prabang, Laos. Also she is survived by grandchildren Chacey and husband Romain Malhouitre, Charissa and husband John Kenny, Sofia Baca-Minks, Luis Baca-Minks, and Axel Minks. Her great-grandchildren are Kaya and Hailey Saks, Veda Kenny, and Nicholas and Nolan Malhouitre. She is also survived by her siblings Dorothy Marnell, David Marnell, Christine Hartley, and Tom Marnell. She is preceded in death by parents Forest and Edna Marnell.
