D. Gene Butler

D. (Doris) Gene Butler, age 89, departed this life on April 2, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona. Gene was born in St. Anthony, Idaho on February 4, 1924, the oldest son of Doyle B. and Ella B. Butler. Gene graduated high school in St. Anthony and in 1943 went into the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served until November, 1945. Gene married Juanita Foster in Ogden, Utah on January 31, 1946. He graduated Weber College in Ogden, Utah in 1951 and received a B.S. Degree from Utah State Agricultural College in Agronomy and Soils in 1953.
In the spring of 1953, Gene and Juanita moved to the Escalante Valley in western Iron County where they lived for 45 years. During those years, Gene was a farmer and rancher, buying and selling farm products, and raising and selling registered polled Hereford cattle and enjoying a wide circle of friends in southern and central Utah, western Nevada and northern Arizona. Before retiring, Gene also sold real estate in Iron and Washington Counties. Gene was associated with many civic groups including the Escalante Valley Lions Club, where he was President. He served on the Iron County School Board and the Soil Conservation Board for Iron County, where he was also named Outstanding Young Farmer in 1961. Gene was a founding member of the Beryl Baptist Church. In 1998, Gene moved to Sun City, Arizona where he enjoyed time with family.
Gene is survived by his wife, Juanita, Sun City, Arizona, three children, John F. Butler (Tami), Phoenix, Arizona, Jim Butler (Tami), Salt Lake City, Utah, and Patricia Daum (Joseph), Cincinnati, Ohio, a younger brother Doyle L. Butler, Ogden, Utah, seven grandchildren, Jenny Parker, Carrie Ann Baker, John Dwight Butler, Elizabeth Butler, Daniel Butler, Trenton Wirth and Daniel Wirth, four great-grandchildren and six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Glenna Pearl Raynor.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27 at A.L. Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85013.
