John DeMille

On May 2 , 2013 John Christian DeMille, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and our friend, passed away in Kanab, Utah with conditions incident to age. He will be greatly missed here but we are sure the reunions he will be having with family and friends on the other side of the veil will be magnificent.

John was born June 4, 1916 in Rockville, Utah to Conrad Ozro and Margaret Anderson DeMille. He was the oldest of nine children. He married Eva Crofts November 18, 1942 in the Salt Lake Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah. They made their home in Orderville, Utah where they raised their four children; Edward, Alan, Leslie and Laraine.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War 2 at Biloxi, Mississippi in the military police and in England in the 8th Air Force refueling B-17 and B-24 aircraft.

John lived briefly while a youth in Hurricane, Utah. The family moved to Orderville, Utah where John attended the Valley schools and made his home there for the rest of his life.

John had a special relationship as a boy with his Grandpa and Grandma Anderson who lived in Cane Beds, Arizona. At a young age his dad would put him on a horse and tell him not to get off and sent him alone to his grandparent's house. He wouldn't have been able to get back on the horse without help.

John was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He held many positions of trust and leadership including bishopric, high council, teacher and high priest group leader. He served as a temple worker in

St. George with his wife until her death on December 12, 1988. He gave many illness and comfort blessings and even assisted in blessings while a resident in the Beehive home of Kanab.

John enjoyed deer hunting, getting loads of wood, gardening and reading. He produced wheelbarrow loads of corn, squash, tomatoes and apples to store and to share with family and friends. John was known for his productive garden & fruit trees. He readily shared their harvest with family and friends. He was known for his honesty when selling apples from his orchard.

John had a very good work ethic. His work was in sheepherding, cutting timber and as a custodian for the LDS church.

John is survived by his children, Edward DeMille (Josie) of Las Vegas, NV, Alan (Rosa) of Kanab, Utah, Leslie (Cheryl) of Sandy, Utah and Laraine (Larry) of Orderville, Utah, thirteen grandchildren, twenty five great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren, twelve step grandchildren, twenty one step great grandchildren, and fourteen great great step grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Loa Brinkerhoff of Washington, Utah and Helen Leavitt of Gunlock, Utah, and one brother, VerDon (Linda) of Roosevelt, Utah; sisters-in law Marjorie Crofts, Karma Criddle and Dorothy DeMille; brother-in-law Charles Esplin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eva, his brothers Wallace, LaMar, Leland and two sisters, Wanda Bowers and Vonda DeMille, as well as brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 11, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at the Orderville Chapel. Friends may call from 9:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M prior to the services at the Orderville Church. Interment will take place at the Orderville, Utah Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mosdell Mortuary of Kanab, Utah.
