Cheryl Lou Smith Heaton Obituary
Cheryl Lou Smith Heaton

Washington, Utah

Our beautiful mother, Cheryl Lou Smith Heaton passed away Sunday, October 20, 2013, at her home in Washington, Utah, after a courageous struggle with cancer. She was born May 18, 1965, in Henderson, Nevada, to Penn Harris and Mary Anne Reynolds Smith.

Cheryl had a happy childhood growing up in Washington. She graduated from Dixie High School, Dixie College and SUU. She had a solid testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ and never wavered in her faith. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings, most recently as a teacher in Relief Society.

Her favorite calling in life was that of mother and devoted her life to taking care of her children. Washington, Enterprise, Parowan and Moccasin, AZ, were home to her family throughout the years. She owned and taught at her preschool in Washington for many years and was Miss Cheryl to many children who still remember her loving care.

She was most at home in the kitchen baking delicious goodies that she generously shared with others. She loved the temple, sunsets, a full moon, walking, reading, city parks, food storage, smell of rain, and family parties.

Despite struggling with cancer for more than two years, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. She was full of gratitude, patience, courage, strength, dignity and an unfailing sense of humor.

Cheryl is survived by: her five children, Cody Hunt and Kayla (Donovan) Oliver of St. George, UT, Melissa Hunt of Washington, UT, Macy Heaton and Tucker Heaton of Moccasin, AZ; her parents; brothers, Mike (Susan) Smith, Steven (Rebecca) Smith, Bryan (Mary Jane) Smith; sisters, Lisa (Randy) Rarick, Jennifer (Scott) Searle, Julie (Todd) Spriggs, Rachel (Nick) Ence; and many nephews and nieces who will truly miss Aunt Cheryl. She was preceded in death by: her grandparents, Tony and Faun Reynolds; E. Penn and Louie Smith.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Derrick Haslem and to Dixie Hospice's Kathy, Tammy and Pauline for the professional and loving care given to our mom.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 25, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 82 N. Main Street, Washington, UT. There will not be a public viewing.
