Mildred Kathryn Ruffin-Nolen also known as Mother, Grammy, Granny-Goose, Mom-Mom, Aunt Mil and Millie peacefully left us to go home on August 16, 2014 at 10:10pm. She was born to William Henry and Emma Mae Finney-Ruffin on March 19, 1919 in Dorchester, Texas.
She spent the first 35 years of her life living in Texas. She graduated from Dorchester High School in 1937. On December 5th, 1937 she married Smith S. Nolen, her soul-mate. Together they had four (4) children Melva Joy; Sharon Sue; Robert Lynn and Rodney Smith.
The Nolen family moved to Las Vegas in June of 1953. For the next 29 years she worked at several of the Hotel/Casino Restaurants as an active member of the Culinary Workers' Union. The last 19 years was employed at the El Cortez Hotel and Casino, 3 years in the Coffee Shop and 16 years in the Employee Dining Hall (Helps Hall), and retired in 1982.
Leaving a legacy of wisdom and strength, she was the "Matriarch" of our family. Completely devoted to her family and friends, she was always there to help when ever needed. Being a woman of integrity, possessing strong traditional morals and family values, with overwhelming compassion and unconditional love she raised not only her children, but played an important role in raising her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; all of her siblings, five (5) brothers and three (3) sisters; her husband of 42 years, Smith S. Nolen on 10/19/1979; her sons Robert Lynn "Bob" Nolen and Rodney Smith "Rod" Nolen.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Melva "Joy" and Dallas A. Adair of Cane Beds, Arizona; her daughter Sharon "Sue" Edwards of Las Vegas, Nevada; 14 grandchildren; 8 step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 14 step-great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren and 12 step-great-great-grandchildren. She loved all the children in her life as if they were her own, and will be truly missed by all who knew her.

Viewing and service time(s) will be as follows, Wednesday, August 27th, 2014, 05:00 p.m. - 08:00 p.m. Viewing in The Small Chapel. Thursday, August 28th, 2014, 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.Viewing in The Small Chapel with Funeral Service following from 11:30am to 1:00pm. Concluding , Thursday, August 28th, 2014, 01:00 p.m. - 01:30 p.m. Graveside Dedication at Palm Downtown Cemetery, The Garden of Roses.
