Victor Anderson Obituary

VICTOR H. ANDERSON, 84, crossed over on September 20 at his home in San Leandro. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Cora Ann; their son, Victor Elon; grandchildren Victoria, Nathan and Elon Thomas; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was the acclaimed poet and author of "Thorns of the Bloodrose," a contemporary classic first published in 1970, as well as numerous articles on the Feri (Faery) Faith and Huna. In 1975, he won the Clover International Poetry Competition Award. Victor and Cora are the founding teachers of the Feri Faith of the Old Religion. Victor was one of the last kahuna and a bokor. A brilliant shaman and priest, he and Cora taught some of the seminal voices in the tradition. Victor was born May 21, 1917 in Clayton, New Mexico (now part of Albuquerque) to Hilbert and Frances Anderson. An accident during childhood left Victor almost totally without sight. He attended a school for the blind in Oregon. Largely self educated, he had a lifelong interest in physics, chemistry, literature and world spiritual traditions. He was an avid reader, bard and an accomplished linguist who spoke numerous languages, including Hawaiian, Spanish, Creole, Greek, Italian, Aramaic and Gothic. He was gifted with a beautiful voice and loved to sing and was competent on the drum. During his adult life, Victor earned his livelihood as a musician, by playing the accordion at public and private dances. He was a member for 40 years of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Alameda Lodge. Memorial Services for Victor will be held Monday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chapel of the Chimes, 32992 Mission Blvd., Hayward, calif. Donations will be graciously accepted by the family. The power within the land has felt the enormous grief of all of us who, directly or indirectly, knew Victor Anderson. I, for one, never met Victor in person yet he influenced my life in too many ways to list here. Because of Victor and those who have shared his magick, my life is full of fey energy. The connection is strong and powerful and Victor shall always be a part of the energy I experience daily. Victor, may the Star Goddess wrap you in her mantle of darkness until next you travel here. Blessings to all you love you.

I have no words sufficient to express my gratitude to both Victor and Cora for their work in launching the Feri tradition or for all that they've contributed to it over the years. Being up in Oregon, I never had the priviledge of meeting Victor, but his work in Feri fills my life.

As President of and on behalf of the Bay Area Pagan Assemblies (BAPA), may blessings go with Victor on his journey to the Otherworld...may he find joy in his God's. Victor and his wife Cora have done much for modern Paganism with the Feri Tradition, and their writings, and we honor Victor greatly! May his spirit always live on in our collective Pagan community.
