JOHN E. PARROTT

Of Oakland, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2006, age 84.
Born in Roseburg, OR, John graduated from Linfield College in 1945 and completed his education at the American Baptist Seminary of the West in Berkeley. He was most respected and appreciated by many as Pastor in Baptist Churches in Portland, OR, Bellingham and Yakima, WA, and Des Moines, IA.
He came to Oakland in 1969 to work with American Baptist Homes of the West serving as Administrator and Executive Director at Piedmont Gardens and Grand Lake Gardens until his retirement in 1986. During those happy and successful years, John felt that he was still a pastor.
In retirement, John enjoyed his home, friends and family gatherings, Church, riding his horse in the Oakland hills, swimming, and traveling, including a Mediterranean cruise to the Holy Land in 1996.
John is survived by his loving wife, Edie; daughters, Elizabeth Parrott Anderson of Marysville, WA, Carey Whitney (Jeff); daughter-in-law, Loni Parrott of Iowa City; grandsons, Steven and Michael Reider of Marysville, WA, Richard Whitney, and Cody and Brady Parrott of Iowa City.
Also survived by two step-sons, Boyd MacDonald, and David MacDonald, his wife, Dion, and their sons, Scott and Ben.
Nieces and nephews include Jan Holden and Fred Parrott of Vancouver, WA, Sandy Henry, Sara Henry Patt and Joe and W.D. Henry of Umpqua, OR. Preceded in death by his son, Dr. Richard Parrott of Iowa City.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service Saturday, March 11, 2006 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, 22nd and Telegraph, Oakland.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Foundation, 534 22nd St., Oakland, CA 94612 or the charity of your choice.
