Michael Charles "Mick" Matthews Obituary
MICHAEL "MICK" CHARLES MATTHEWS
April 16, 1977 - February 27, 2014
Life Long Resident of Alameda
MICHAEL (MICK) CHARLES MATTHEWS was born in the Alameda Hospital, Alameda, CA on April 16, 1977. He passed away February 27, 2014. He met death with dignity and the wonderful support of the Alameda Hospital. Mick's passing was sudden and painless. Many friends immediately came to be by his side. He was surrounded and supported by his loving parents and many lifelong friends and extended family members.
Mick is survived by his father, Michael Stephen Matthews, OD, (Ivy) and his mother Maureen Christina Matthews (Bill). He is the grandson of Christina Rivera and Orestes Rivera, nephew of Blanche Herzog, Melanie MacPherson, Stephen Matthews, DC, and Joe Garbayo. He is also survived by his cousins Shannon Wood, Tim Wetton, Holly Joyce, Meredith O'Reilly and Joe Garbayo Jr.
The memories and many wonderful experiences at the various schools Mick attended throughout the United States include Franklin, Lum, Redwood Day School, Robert Louis Stevenson in Monterey and Alameda High School. Wherever Mick went he made many lifelong friendships.
He was dedicated to his family and shared with his mother Maureen the caring of his grandmother Christina and his aunt Blanche from New York. Maureen and Mick enjoyed sharing their family with friends especially the Halloween parties for his friends at grammar school. Every holiday Mick continued to invite his friends to his mother's kitchen to share the wonderful conversations and laughter from his Uncle Joe Garbayo and his aunt Betty. Mick in turn received many holiday invitations from his friends throughout the country, but his family remained his passion.
Hunting and fishing were enjoyed with his cousin Joe Garbayo Jr, his wife Nicole and their two children Joseph and Grace. Mick's home was always available and open to friends regardless of the time of day or night. He offered a shoulder to cry on and he offered an ear to listen. He was always there for his friends.
Mick was very proud of his family, his friends and his life here in Alameda. He will be deeply missed!
