Resident of Orinda
Susan (Rutter) Stafford, 64, passed away May 3, in Orinda, California after a swift and vicious battle with pancreatic cancer. Susan was born to Louis and Nellmarie "Toots" Rutter in Miamisburg, Ohio.
In 1967, she graduated from Miamsburg High School. Susan was highly involved and earned such honors as National Honor Society, Homecoming Court, varsity cheerleader and the Blue and White Newspaper Staff, to name a few. She then went on to attend Eastern Kentucky University and University of Dayton. Susan earned her Master's degree in Marketing and Communication at San Francisco State University. Among Susan's employers through the years: Alta Bates Medical Center, Golden State Warriors, EMC Creative, and Animal Rescue Foundation.
Susan had a great love for family. She is survived by Jan Robert Long, her beloved boyfriend and partner of 35 years; son Chad Stafford and his wife Julie. She is also survived by her three grandsons: Jackson, Benjamin and Nicholas. She flourished in the role of Grandma. Her grandsons always looked forward to her frequent trips to Arizona, in order to celebrate each of their birthdays. They will greatly miss all the games she played and sporting events she'd attend.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents.
A Celebration of Susan's life will began at 10:30AM on Thursday June 12, 2014 at the Lafayette-Orinda Presbyterian Church 49 Knox Dr., Lafayette, CA. Susan is an organ donor and her urn will be laid to rest on June 12th, on a hill overlooking Mount Diablo in Lafayette, California. Memories and tributes may be posted on her Facebook page, under the name of Susan Stafford.
