Viola Adeline Nissen Obituary
Viola Adeline Nissen
Jan. 6, 1920-Jun. 21, 2014
Resident of Antioch
Viola passed away in Oakley, CA at Spyglass Senior Villas, after a short illness. Her devoted children were by her side. She was born in Duluth, Minnesota, where she married her husband Robert in 1936 and where together they raised their three children. In 1961, the family moved to California, residing first in Walnut Creek, then Clayton and Antioch. A homemaker her entire life, she loved traveling, gardening and their retirement home in Arizona but her greatest joys were times spent surrounded by her family. She lovingly followed and shared in their activities and accomplishments. An excellent cook and hostess she is also remembered for her beautifully decorated homes. Despite losing her sight in 2009, she continued to retain her independence in her own home.
She was pre-deceased by her husband of 49 years, Robert Nissen. and is survived by her three children, Robert Nissen Jr. (Beryl), Claudia Crow (Gerald), Brian Nissen (Isabelle), all of Antioch; eight grandchildren, Brenda D'Amico (Jim), Brad Nissen (Karen), Bret Nissen (Gina), Briget Rettagliata (Eddie), all of Oakley and Cory Crow (Joann), Todd Crow (Leslie), of Antioch, Brodie Nissen of Martinez and Tarra. Nissen of Oakley; 22 great grandchildren and 16 great-great grandchildren all residing in Contra Costa County. She is also survived by her dear cousin, Marilyn McGillivray of Redding, CA. and cousins Virginia Magney of Duluth, MN and Fritz Lindblom of Santa Barbara, CA; nieces, Darlene DeLeon of Pleasanton, Joanne Fieldseth of Baudette, MN, Patricia Herr of New Richmond, Wisconsin and nephew Richard Eilers of Duluth, MN. She will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, CA on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 11 a.m.
