Former Resident, Oakland
Leroy, son of Lee Ethel and Lance Sennette passed away after a brief illness on July 28, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife Clementine, his son Wayne of Granada Hills, CA, his parents and sister Lila of Oakland.
Leroy was born in Franklin, LA on Aug. 8, 1930 and moved to Oakland with his family in 1937. He attended St. Patrick's Elementary School; one semester at St. Mary's High School and graduated from Oakland Technical High School.
He entered the United States Air Force and served for eight years as a radio operator. He then enrolled in and completed an 18 month training course in the Federal Aviation Agency in Oklahoma City, OK. He was employed as an air traffic control operator in Palmdale, CA and retired from a supervisory position at the agency after 25 years of service.
Leroy then worked as an engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Vancouver, Canada for five more years before ending his career in government service. His greatest enjoyment after retiring was coming to Oakland every few months to spend time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his son, Keith Sennette of Oakland, son Lance Sennette, daughter Cheryl Swearingen and son-in-law Kelly of Grandada Hills; brother Lionel Sennette and sister Lois Hollis, of Oakland; nephews Mark Sennette and Duane Pellerin from Oakland and seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Viewing will be 5:00pm-8:30pm on Aug. 1st, 2014 at Utter-McKinley Mortuary Chapel and a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am, Aug. 2nd, 2014 at St. John the Baptist De Salle Catholic Church in Granada Hills, CA.
