Mario V. Rose Obituary
Mario V. Rose
Dec 13, 1937 ~ July 31, 2014
Mario was born in Faial, Azores (Portugal). It was there that he met and married his wife, Leodina. Together they immigrated to Martinez in 1960. Mario was able to find work at a nursery, beginning his love of gardening. Mario worked in various jobs over the years including Poggie Janitorial and Cunha Pest Control. Mario began working for the City of Concord in 1973 as a custodian. Due to hard work and perseverance, Mario was promoted through the years until he retired in 1999 as Building Maintenance Supervisor. Mario obtained his GED and obtained management certificates from Diablo Valley College.
Mario loved working with his hands and was known for his wood work. He never had to call an outside contractor because he was his own handyman doing remodels, electrical, plumbing, and even built furniture for his children. In his later years, Mario enjoyed making guitars and violins as keepsakes for his family and friends.
Mario loved keeping his Portuguese traditions and heritage alive. His weekends were about family and friends, and were spent at Portuguese festas, folklore festivals, or RV camping. Mario was a proud member of the Flor do Oakley Holy Ghost and Our Lady of Fatima Society of Antioch. Mario was known for his quiet nature and his strong, loyal character. He brought his family to the United States so they could all be together. He helped many people find jobs and encouraged many to go to college. He had a kind word for all. He always put his children and grandchildren above all else.
Mario is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Leodina, his three children Mario Rose (Terrie), Darlene Fontes, and Linda Martins (Roger), his six grandchildren Darin, Sophia, Marisa, Harrison, James, and Isabella, his four brothers and sisters-in-law, his sister and brother-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Thursday, August 7, 2014 from 6 to 8 PM with a Vigil service at 7:00 PM at Connolly & Taylor Funeral Home in Martinez, and a funeral mass on Friday, August 8, 2014 at 10am at St. Catherine of Sienna Church in Martinez.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Parkinson 's disease Foundation or The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
