W.S. "Dub" Pearson Obituary
June 6, 1935 - January 28, 2014
W.S. "Dub" Pearson, 78, passed away Tuesday morning January 28 at St. Joseph Regional Health Center. Funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Friday January 31 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Dub was born June 6, 1935, in Portales, New Mexico the son of Sidney and Willie (Cribbs) Pearson. Dub's career began in newspaper advertising sales in Lubbock, followed by advancement to Vice President/General Manager of the Midland Reporter-Telegram, then Publisher of the Big Spring Herald. His family moved to Bryan-College Station where he was Publisher of the B/CS Eagle from 1976-80. He owned and operated Tri State Sporting Goods from 1981-87. He then served as bailiff in the 272nd District Court for nine years. During his bailiff work and after retirement from the courts, Dub volunteered over 25 years of service in prison ministries in the various units of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until the time of his death. Dub was active in community service including past-president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Still Creek Boys Ranch. He served as Drive Chairman of the United Way, and was the originator of the Eagle Cheer Fund. Dub was an avid golfer and hunter. He was selected to the New Mexico All-State Basketball Team his senior year of high school. He was a supporter of the Texas A&M Women's Basketball Team.
Dub is preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joseph Pearson and a sister, Eula Bea Howard. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Johnnie Pearson of Bryan; daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ron Allen of Dallas; sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Stephanie Pearson of Beaumont, Steven and Duana Pearson of Nacogdoches, and Brad Pearson of Bryan; grandchildren, Audra Smolinski, Kim Allen, Laura Golatt, Johnna Allen, Alex and Brian Pearson, Mandi and Sarah Pearson, Megan and Josh Pearson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Still Creek Ranch, 6055 Hearne Rd, Bryan, TX 77808.
