Bernie Snipes Obituary
Bernie Snipes, age 72, of Clovis, NM passed away on August 20, 2013, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis NM.
Bernie was born on February 7, 1941, in McAllister, NM to Huey and Opal Smith Snipes.
He graduated from House High School in 1959, served in the Army and later attended Eastern New Mexico University. He married Bertie Burton on February 14, 1964. He drove trucks for most of his career, as well as a few entrepreneur businesses. He retired from Wal-Mart in 2004.
He served as President of the Girls AAU Basketball organization. He loved basketball - on the court, refereeing, and watching his kids and grandkids play. Most of all, he enjoyed getting together with family and friends. Bernie was a Christian and was baptized in 1959.
He is survived by his wife: Bertie Snipes of the home; daughter: Koena Tapscott (Ralph) of Corpus Christi, TX; son: Jack Snipes (April) of Clovis, NM; daughter: Julie Spears (Todd) of Clovis, NM; 5 grandchildren: Landyn, Taylon, and Ashlon Snipes, Austin (Hollee) Spears and Allie Spears; brothers: Jimmie Snipes of McAllister, NM, Dennis (RaDonna) Snipes of Clovis, NM and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Jerry Snipes.
Memorial services are at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 23, 2013, at Steed-Todd Funeral Home Chapel, 800 E. Manana Blvd., Clovis, NM with Ken Cable officiating. Burial will follow at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis, NM. Pallbearers are Kyle Snipes, John Bill Snipes, Joe Ben Snipes, David Smith, Larry Smith, and Jimmy Love. Honorary Pallbearers are Randy McWilliams, Guy Smith, Buddy Vaughan, Dale Vaughan, Jimmy Carpenter, Gary Swann, Alvin Swann, Louie Erramouspe, Joe Whitehurst, Jim Bolton and his coffee drinking buddies.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Lubbock-, 3511 10th St., Lubbock, TX 79415.
