Memorial services for Robert (Bob) William McClean, Jr., 48, of Portales, will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 15, 2011, in the Wheeler Mortuary Chapel with various family members and friends officiating.
Bob was born April 2, 1963, in Pittsburgh, PA to Joan and Robert William McClean, and died August 11, 2011, in Portales, NM. When he was eight years old, he and his family moved to Walnut, CA, a suburb of Los Angeles. He graduated from high school there, and worked in the area until 1982. It was then he moved to Elephant Butte, NM to work in the family business, Pat's Convenience Store. Later he began working as a bar tender and manager of bars at Dam Site, Blue Waters and Inn at the Butte. On May 13, 1985, in Truth or Consequences, he was married to Candy Barron.
In the 1990's, Bob began working as a surveyor with Jeff Richter Surveying Co. He had been disabled since 1998. In 2001, he moved to Portales to make his home. Bob was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. As long as his health would permit, he loved bowling, golfing, tennis and playing softball. Since he was no longer able to participate, he enjoyed watching games and tournaments. Bob had a great sense of humor, and was always making others laugh.
He is survived by his wife, Candy of their home; two daughters, Christina Barron and her companion, Michael Montoya of Clovis and Amber McClean of Portales; five grandsons, Bobby Barron, Isaiah Griffin, Elijah Griffin, Cash Barron and Michael Montoya; his father, Robert McClean of Truth or Consequences, NM; and two sisters, Erin Stevenson of Elephant Butte, NM and Cindy McClean of Silver City, NM. He was preceded in death by his mother, Joan McClean.
