John Richard Pope, age 83, passed away on the evening of Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, NM. He slipped away peacefully with his wife of 61 years by his bedside.
He was born in Winton, NC, one of 3 brothers, both who are deceased as is his parents. He grew up in Winton until his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force.
John was a retired Chief Master Sergeant with 30 years of decorated service and a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring, he continued service to the military at Cannon Air Force Base as a civil servant for 14 years.
Survivors include his wife Yoko of Clovis; son Bill and his wife Marti of Florida; daughter Shirley and her husband Philip of Texas; 3 granddaughters, Kailani, Malia, and Chloe; and 2 great grandchildren, Kalia and Gunnar.
As per his wishes, there will be no memorial service. Burial will be in San Antonio, TX, attended by immediate family only.
