Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 13, 2011.
BUSECKAlice Elizabeth9/28/1936 to 3/5/2011Alice Buseck died at home on March 5, 2011. She is survived by husband, Peter; four children Lori Clive, David Linda, Susan Ellen, and Paul Dana; four wonderful granddaughters; and her brother Peter Chrysanthi. Born Alice Bien in NYC, she graduated from the University of Michigan, then received graduate degrees from Columbia teaching and ASU piano performance. She lived in Tempe since 1963. Alice loved her family most of all, but beyond that she loved music, art, and fun. She traveled widely, including to remote and challenging regions. She loved to play the piano, especially piano four hands with friends and her brother. She also played viola in the Tempe Symphony Orchestra, was part of the ASU Chorale for 40 years, and sang with the Singing Survivors group at Banner Desert Hospital. All her children followed in her footsteps with their love of playing music. She was also an accomplished painter. Alice volunteered for years at KBAQ, Literacy Volunteers, Meals on Wheels, Community Preschool, the National Society of Arts and Letters, and more. In 1993, she was named Volunteer of the Year by the City of Tempe and by Literacy Volunteers of Maricopa County. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Nature Conservancy, Jewish Family and Children's Service, or the ASU Foundation for the Alice Buseck Scholarship Fund for piano students. A memorial service will be held on the weekend of April 16/17.
