Charles K. Stephan

Charles K. Stephan, passed peacefully this week in Auburn, California. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in October 1923.
Charles proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman, and in the Army Air Corps as a Gunner in World War II
. Served with distinction in the U.S. Air Force as a Douglas "Invader" B-26 Gunner and Gunnery Instructor, flying with the 452nd BG, 730th Bomb Squadron at Long Beach Muni Airport, Calif., and later out of Miho AFB, Japan during the Korean War
. Charles remained in the USAF Reserve, and retired as a Command Master Sergeant. He also retired from the Civil Service, McClellan Air Force Base, Sacramento, California.
Charles was active locally in the Civil Air Patrol, the Sacramento Valley Pilots Association; and Seniors In Retirement, Chapter 79; In addition, Charles was a very active member in the Air Force Gunner's Association, and the 452nd Bomb Group and 17th Bomb Wing. He was a loyal and active member at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Auburn, California.
Preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia, who worked as an RN for many years at Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital. Charles is survived by his sister, Maxine Conway, with three children, Linda, Thomas, William; his sister, Helen Cartwright; his brother, Louis, with wife Carol, and three children, Lisa, Neal, Tina. Beloved neighbor, and revered friend and acquaintance to many.
Visitation at Lassila Funeral Chapel, 551 Grass Valley Hwy on April 30, 2013 3 to 7 p.m. Memorial Services at St. Luke's Episcopal Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at 10 a.m. The Interment, with military honor guard, immediately following memorial service, at New Auburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, monetary gifts may be donated to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 124 Orange St, Auburn, CA 95603 in Charles' memory.
