Donald M. Pass
1934 - 2013
Donald Pass, 79, of Meadow Vista, Calif., passed away on September 19, 2013 with his family by his side.
A Placer County resident for nearly 50 years, Don was born in 1934 in Solvay, New York to Mario and Filomena Passamani. His family moved to San Leandro, California in the 1940's where he worked with his father in the family construction business while attending San Leandro High School.
Don attended San Jose State University, and graduated from the California Highway Patrol academy where he trained as a CHP motorcycle enforcement officer. He was transferred to Auburn in 1966 where he continued his work in law enforcement. He later graduated from the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia and worked as Chief Investigator for the Placer County District Attorney's Office.
Don was a kind and generous man who always had a smile on his face and never met a stranger. He loved life and had a genuine gift for making friends wherever he went. Don would give the shirt off his back to help anyone in need. He was an active member of Auburn's Tahoe Club. He enjoyed Italian food, good wine, good music, good friends, and spending time at the family cabin in Lake Almanor, fishing, boating and entertaining the many friends he had known and loved.
Don was preceded in death by wife Nancy Pass, and son David Pass. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Marci Pass; children, Kari Freidig and spouse Denny Freidig of Auburn; Tommy Pass of Meadow Vista; step-sons John Arrabit and spouse Susan Arrabit of Meadow Vista, Paulo Arrabit and partner Ronny Veres of Sacramento; and grandchildren, Adrianna and Gianna Pass along with his several nieces and nephews.
A public viewing will be held at Chapel of the Hills, 1331 Lincoln Way Auburn, Calif., on Thursday September 26, 2013 from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by a rosary. A service will be held at St. Josephs Catholic Church 1162 Lincoln Way Auburn, Calif., at 11 a.m. on Friday September 27, 2013, with a short private burial, followed by a celebration of life reception at the Tahoe Club, 902 ½ Lincoln Way, Auburn, Calif., from 12 to 4 p.m.
