John V. Martz

John V. Martz, born August 19, 1924, passed away July 15, 2013 at the age of 88 in Roseville, Calif., surrounded by family and friends.
Survived by his loving wife, Neola; sons, Michael (Susan), Richard (Sonja); daughter, Marie Mort (John); sister, Alice Baker; sister-in-law, Sally Martz; grandsons, John, Steven, Chris Mort (Inkie); granddaughters, Jennifer (Josh) Maroney, Kelsey Mort (Kevin); great-granddaughter, Liberty Mort; and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his father, Orley; mother, Alice and brother, Walter.
After serving in World War II
in the Navy, he retired from McCellan AF Base after 25 years as an Aircraft Sheet Metal Worker in 1976. From 1968 to present he immersed himself in his second career as a self-taught custom gunsmith, working with German Lugers and P-38's. A perfectionist, he overcame skepticism to prove himself as a master of his craft, attaining respect, admiration, and world renown, with his custom guns listed in the Blue Book of Gun Values. His sense of humor made him friends where ever he went. He will be dearly missed. "
