A loving father, grandfather and husband, Charles passed away peacefully on July 8, 2013 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Born in Chester, Pennsylvania on April 12, 1918 he spent the majority of his life in Northern California. Growing up in San Francisco and Santa Cruz, he moved to Sacramento after serving in World War II. He worked for the US Government as a Procurement Supervisor and Division Chief at McClellan AFB for 31 years, retiring in 1974.
Affectionately known as Charlie, he loved the outdoors and was a sports enthusiast. He was a competitive swimmer and outstanding basketball and football player during his high school and college years. Charlie was a sports journalist, lifeguard and coach from a very young age. A very caring and passionate family man, his greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He was a dedicated member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church during his days in Folsom serving as an elder.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Elvera Martin; daughters: Cynthia Toronto and Elaine Russell; son, Bruce Martin; granddaughters: Jackie Storms and Juliana Martin; and great-granddaughters Danica and Erin Storms. He lived in Sacramento and Folsom most of his life before moving to Green Bay with his son in 2003.
A Memorial Service will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Folsom on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. Friends and family are welcome to attend.
