Eva was born on February 20, 1920 near the town of Driggs, Arkansas, in Logan County. Eva was born at home to James Edgar Boles and Bessie Walker Boles. Preceded in death by her father Ed, mother Bessie, sister Janell Boles Jostmeyer, and brother William Trilby Boles.
After graduating Valedictorian of her high school, Eva worked as a nanny for a family of five while trying to support herself and attend college. Eva was married in 1940 to MD Bohanon and gave birth to her son James Dennis in 1941 and Shirley Kay in 1945. She worked on Liberty ships doing electrical wiring in the Portland, Oregon shipyard during World War II. She was a gifted florist in the 1950's and later owned Eve's Decorator Draperies Store and then became a licensed dental hygienist for 25 years before retiring in Perry, Oklahoma.
Eva was first baptized in 1931 into Cumberlin Presbyterian Church in Arkansas. She was confirmed in the Episcopal Church of Perry, Okla in 1957 by the Very Reverend Chilton Powell, Bishop of Oklahoma and was also licensed as a Lay Reader in 1966. She was a member of the Alter Guild for 30 years and for 21 years was a Lay Reader at St. Mark's Episcopal Church of Perry, Okla. She was also married to William Mehringer in 1976 in Perry. Bill preceded her in death in 1984. After moving to Auburn in 1989 she attended St. Luke's Episcopal Church Auburn and was licensed as a Lay Reader by Bishop Jerry Lamb. She was a member of the Daughter's of the King at St. Luke's and was very active in the church.
Eva is survived by her son James D. Bohanon of Norman Okla., daughter Shirley K. Johnson of Auburn Calif., three step children, Linda Buie of Bristow Okla., David Mehringer of Barrington N.H. and Rick Mehringer of Auburn. She has nine surviving grandchildren Jay Bohanon, Chad Bohanon, Kristin Johnson Cummins, Lisa Johnson Frye, Ashley Lane Manula, Chris Buie, Loren Mehringer Johnston, Stacy Mehringer, Marc Mehringer and 11 great-grandchildren. One grandchild Jennifer Freis also preceded her in death in 2007.
Eva was much loved and our hearts are shattered. She was a gentle and loving person who treated everyone with love and respect. We will miss her deeply.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, July 6, 2013 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 124 Orange Street, Auburn, CA 95603. Donations may be made to St. Luke's Church in lieu of flowers.
