Joseph Franco, 80, loving husband, father and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 6, 2013 while surrounded by his family at his home in San Juan Bautista, Calif.
Born in Lincoln, Calif., on May 3, 1932, Joe "Pep" was the son of Dolores and Jesus Franco. After proudly serving his country in the Navy during the Korean War, Joe received a BA from CSU, Sacramento. He married Barbara (Valles) on March 30, 1968.
Joe retired from GTE in 1994 after a successful 32 year career. Never seeking the spotlight, he was a dedicated community servant. Joe coached Little League, volunteered his time with the VFW and American Legion, assisted migrant workers with their taxes and was active in his church. He loved his San Francisco Giants and spending time with his friends and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter, Margaret Franco Anderson of Rocklin; son, Steve (Amelia) of Roseville; daughters, Jolene (Eric) Towson of Brentwood; and Joanna Franco (Glen Rank) of Minneapolis, Minn.; step-daughter, Donna (Sam) Geil of Fresno; step-son, Bruce Costa of Brentwood; stepson, Kevin (Lynda) Costa of Concord; step-daughter, Marcy (Mark) Bowie of Concord; grandchildren: Casey, Aaron, Patrick, Lindsay, Joe, Stephanie, Vincent, Alex, Ellie, Jack and Amelia; great-grandchild, Brady; and sisters, Cora Macias and Carmen Franco of Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesus and Dolores (Gamboa) Franco, and siblings Merdedes, Ramon and Jay.
A rosary will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home in Hollister, Calif., followed by funeral service at Mission San Juan Bautista on Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Lincoln Cemetery, 1445 First Street, Lincoln, Calif., on Saturday January 12, 2013 at 1 p.m. with a gathering to follow.
