Lucas Arthur Armand
4/7/1997 - 12/20/2012

Lucas Arthur Armand was born on April 7, 1997, at Mercy Folsom Hospital, in Folsom, Calif. On Friday, September 23, 2011, at the tender age of 14 years, 5 months, he suffered a massive heart attack followed by a debilitating anoxic brain injury. This tragedy culminated with Lucas' death from a severe case of pneumonia, on Thursday, December 20, 2012.
The initial effects of the anoxic brain injury left Lucas with little more than minimal autonomic functions prompting some medical professionals to predict he would survive less than one month. With the persistent and unwavering support of his family, friends and community at large, Lucas fought gallantly against the insidious and debilitating effects of the injury. Lucas continued to fight for his family and friends until he could no longer withstand the degenerative impact of the injury on his body. Lucas' family will be forever grateful to their extended family, friends, Loomis Basin communities, UCD Medical Center staff and Westview Healthcare Center staff for their tireless care and support of Lucas and his family.
Lucas attended Kindergarten through 8th Grade at Penryn School. He had just started 9th Grade at Del Oro High School the month before he was injured. Lucas had many friends in South Placer County due to his friendly, outgoing personality and the competitive spirit and sportsmanship he showed while participating in recreational and school team sports (cross country, track, baseball, soccer, ski racing and basketball). Lucas had the unique ability to understand what prompted people to do the things they do. That ability allowed him to be uniquely supportive to family and friends during difficult times. Lucas' ability to be self-critical, respectful and compassionate made him not just the perfect son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, but also a mentor.
Lucas is survived by his Father (David); Mother (Nikki); Sister (Jacqueline); Grandmother (Maureen); Grandfather (Armando); Grandmother (Susan); Aunt (Helene); Uncle (Steven); Aunt (Robyn); and Cousins (Ada and Owen). He was preceded in death by his Grandfather (Arthur) and Aunt (Jacqueline).
Lucas' friends and family held a Celebration of Life for Lucas at the Del Oro High School Performing Arts Auditorium, 3301 Taylor Road, Loomis, CA 95650, on Friday, January 4, 2013. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in Lucas' name to the or, join them in further honoring Lucas and inspiring others by contributing to the "Lucas Armand Donation Fund." The proceeds will be used by the family to setup and support an annual college scholarship to benefit a Cross Country and/or Track and Field athlete(s). Anyone wishing to donate may do so at any US Bank.
