5/3/1920 - 9/25/2013
Mary Gordanier passed away peacefully on September 25, 2013 in the loving arms of her daughter, Terri Stevenson and son, Jerry Gordanier. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Gordanier and son, Fred Gordanier, as well as three brothers and a sister.
Mary was born on May 3, 1920 in Brady, Texas. However, she spent most of her childhood years in Morro Bay, Calif., where she met a Serviceman named Ernie Gordanier or "Lucky" as his friends called him. They were married on May 11, 1938. Stories were told about how this young couple would enter dance contests and would walk away with the #1 prize, a bag full of groceries.
Mary started her family in 1949 with the birth of her first son, Fred. Four years later, in 1953 came the birth of twins, Jerry and Terri.
Life was busy as Mary moved all over the State of Calif., to accommodate Ernie's career with the Department of Corrections. At retirement Mary and Ernie settled in Sacramento.
Mary or "Grandma Mary" as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her, was a very strong lady. She battled numerous illnesses only to fight on to live another day. She always had a positive outlook and never complained about a thing. Just a sweet and petite lady who loved life and her family.
Mary leaves behind her son, Jerry Gordanier and wife, Peggy, her daughter Terri Stevenson and husband Frank, as well as six grandchildren: Chasitity, Adam, Micheline, Nicole, Mike and Danielle; and eight great-grandchidlren: Cole, Ty, Gage, Beau, Madison, Riley, Zack and Lyla.
"Mama, you will be missed by everyone who knew you, but mostly by your family. We know you are at peace with Daddy and Freddy and the rest of your family. We love you and miss you."
A graveside service will be held in Mary's honor on October 18, 2013 at 2:30 p.m. at the New Auburn Cemetery.
