MEISEL, Meta Ernestine
April 13, 1907 - December 18, 2012
Meta Meisel passed away peacefully in Stony Plain Alberta in her 106th year, surrounded by the love of her family. When asked about the secret of her longevity, she always replied, "Keep your eyes on the Lord, and always make the best of it." Now her family takes comfort in the knowledge that she has seen her Lord face to face.
Meta was born on a farm near Vibank Saskatchewan. In 1927 she married John Meisel, who predeceased her in 1980. To this marriage were born two daughters, Joyce Lillian (Werner Brandt) and Mary Esther (Keith Wagner) who survive to cherish her memory. Other survivors include seven grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and five great great-grandchildren as well as a sister, June Clive and a sister-in-law, Adella Lenz.. Meta was predeceased by her parents, Otto and Lena Lenz, three brothers, Fred (Gertrude) Lenz, Otto (Elsie) Lenz, Charles (Erna) Lenz, and 2 sisters, Helen (Fred) Leippi and Mary (John) Weslowski.
From 1927 to 1973, Meta lived and farmed with her husband John near Vibank Saskatchewan. Meta was the essence of the Saskatchewan farm homemaker, renowned for her cooking, her gardening and her great hospitality. She and John were also always heavily involved in their community and in Immanuel Lutheran at Vibank. In 1973 she moved into Vibank and continued her church and community activities, including being an active volunteer for CNIB. In 2000 Meta moved to live with her daughter Mary (Keith) on an acreage near Spruce Grove Alberta. She continued to pursue her interests of baking and gardening until past 100 years, and made many new friends through her active involvement at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church in Spruce Grove. In 2007 over 180 family and friends joined in celebration of her 100th birthday.
Meta spent her last year at the Good Samaritan Care Centre in Stony Plain. Until her very last days she continued to enjoy her participation in the activities provided there. Meta's family would like to thank the management and staff of the Good Samaritan Care Centre for their exemplary care. Also, they would like to express appreciation for the many friends and family members who came to visit, especially Ruth Hessmann, Lu Scott, Pastor Michael Macintyre and Meta's sister, June Clive.
A memorial celebration of Meta's rich life will be held at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Spruce Grove at 2:00 p.m. on January 5th 2013, Pastor Michael Macintyre officiating. Interment beside her husband John will follow at a later date at Memorial Gardens, Regina Saskatchewan.
