Albert (Bert) Joseph James
May 12, 1933 - September 1, 2013
After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Bert passed away peacefully on September 1, 2013 at the age of 80. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Lorraine, his children Darlene (Domenic), Debbie (Gerald), Linda, Ken, David (Corene), Linda, Norm (Noreen), Tim; 15 grandchildren and 13 great- grandchildren; Siblings: Ian, Claire, Fleurette, Diane, Duncan; extended family, friends and his dog and best friend, Muffin. He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Jesse, and his son, Jesse.
Bert loved going to the cabin at Fawcett Lake, fishing, hunting and working in his garden. He proudly served for the Canadian Military as a member of the Black Watch (Royal Highland Regiment) during the Korean War. He later became bar manager at the Legion and at the Edmonton Soccer facilities. Bert holds a place on the Edmonton Soccer Association's Wall of Honour for his contributions. He was also actively involved in the Kensington Shepherd's Care community.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at the Kensington Shepherd's Care for their wonderful support and kindness. As well, thanks to Dr. Chua and his team at the Cross Cancer Institute.
Memorial Service will be held at Howard & McBride Westlawn Chapel, 16310 Stony Plain Road, on Monday, September 9, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cross Cancer Institute, Alberta Cancer Foundation, 11560 University Ave, Edmonton, T6G 1Z2.
