YOUNG, Dr. David George
July 1, 1941 – December 21, 2012
David was a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. Raconteur, punster, intellectual, traveler and bon vivant; he loved a good joke, brilliant conversation, evenings with friends and family; he relished fast canoes, slow Tai Chi, motorcycles, Western novels, and his grandchildren.
David grew up in Saskatchewan and worked passionately as a teacher and educator in Alberta. As Superintendent of Schools in Grande Cache and Stony Plain, he believed in public education, that every child should have a fair opportunity for proper schooling. He practiced that belief with his education work in Kosovo, Egypt and Ghana.
He died suddenly, but peacefully, after a 12-year battle with cancer on December 21st at home with family. David will be greatly missed by Carol, his wife of 42 years, as well as his sons Tate and Kelly, daughters-in-law Kim and Kelly, grandchildren Soren and Kirsten; cousins Therrell, Rosalind, Brian, Sandra and Greg; sister-in-law Lorraine, nieces Michelle, Andrea and Suzanne; many good friends and colleagues. David was predeceased by his father Rev. Adam Tate Young, and mother Martha Evelyn Young.
Memorial Service will be held on Friday, December 28th, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews United Church, 1A Fieldstone Drive, in Spruce Grove. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 710, 10123 - 99 Street, Edmonton, AB T5J 3H1, or the Light Up Your Life Tri-Community Palliative / Hospice Care Society: 4405 South Park Drive, Stony Plain, AB T7Z 2M7.
