PIERCE, Helen Louise
Helen Louise Pierce was born at Roselind, Alberta, January 12, 1915 and died January 3, 2013. Helen was the second daughter of Salano Warren Pierce and Margaret Ross (Gould) Pierce. She was predeceased by her parents (1971 and 1972) and sisters, Edna (1982) and Florence (1992). In 1984, Helen married her widower brother-in-law Gordon Albert Sanders. They had happy years together until Gordon died July 12, 1993, following a long illness. Helen is survived by Margaret (Sanders) Plain, Richard H.M. Plain, Hugh Sanders (Margaret), Miriam (Ferguson) Meikle and Daniel Ferguson (Sandra) and their families.
Helen had a long career in Education starting in Camrose Normal School, teaching in rural schools, Alliance, Camrose Public School District, and the Faculty of Education, University of Alberta, retiring in 1980.
Helen was a lifelong learner. She studied and taught piano, music theory and form. Like other teachers of her time, she upgraded her learning by attending summer school and winter sessions for many years. She received her M. Ed from the University of Alberta in 1964.
Helen liked to travel and combined her love of travel with the love of learning. She attended learned and Business and Professional Women's conferences all over the world including the ten provinces in Canada and the Yukon.
Helen remembered attending Sunday school and church services all her life until regular attendance became difficult.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Albert United Church, 20 Green Grove Dr, St. Albert, AB, at 11:00 a.m. on January 8, 2013 with Interment at Camrose Cemetery.
The family extends their thanks to the staff at Rosedale St. Albert and Unit 32 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for the wonderful care provided to Helen.
