KROENING, Margaret Lenore
December 1923 - November 2012
Lenore was born in Calgary to Norman and Edith Timmins. The Timmins family moved to Vancouver, then settled in Edmonton where the five children, Adrilla (Timmi), Lenore, Audre, Victor and Trudy, flourished through the Depression and World War ll. Lenore had fond memories of working at Birks Jewellers part time while attending Victoria High School, and as a stenographer for Smith Parlee Clement. She fell in "love at first sight" with handsome Richard Kroening, and he fell for her when he discovered how great a dancer she was. They married in 1946 and remained passionately in love for 66 years. They soon moved to Richard's hometown, Lamont, which Lenore came to know as a wonderful place to raise their children, Leslie, Michael and Jim. She deeply appreciated community and church life and living kitty- corner on the block to her in-laws. Richard and Lenore's home was frequently filled with people, whether the growing family of much- loved nieces and nephews from out of town, or neighbors gathering to play bridge and sing to Lenore's lively piano playing accompanied by Richard's harmonica.
In 1974 they moved back to Edmonton. Lenore worked for some years as a valued typist in the Department of Geography at the U of A. She and Richard enjoyed tropical holidays together and vegetable gardening at home. Always a lover of babies, Lenore was thrilled at the birth of her three granddaughters and took great pleasure and pride in their accomplishments. Lenore is missed deeply by husband Richard; siblings Adrilla, Audre, Vic and Trudy; children Leslie (Paul Precht), Michael (Lauri Baldwin) and Jim (Sylvain Page); and granddaughters, Kerry and Kimberly Precht and Claire Kroening. Her love gave us courage, peace and belonging, and it carries us still.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 pm Monday, November 19 at Taylor Seminary, 11525 - 23 Avenue (South side of 23 Ave, west of 111 St. Don't turn onto Saddleback Road.) In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Auxiliary Hospital Palliative Care.
