Mikas, a much loved husband, father and grandfather (Opa) died peacefully in Edmonton, Alberta on November 26, 2012 in his 95th year.
After a long well- lived life devoted to family and friends, he is lovingly remembered by many, but especially his wife of 64 years ( Edith), his four children Armin (Margeurite), Jutta ( Wayne), Harold ( Lisanne), and Rita ( John), grandchildren Michael, Craig, Carl, Sarah, Ted ,Kevin, Tom and Simon, niece Grazyna ( Paul) and his extended family in Lithuania.
Born in Lithuania, Mikas and his family immigrated to Canada in 1952. Driven by an incredible work ethic and the ability to adapt to change, during his life he was a farmer, a blacksmith, a soldier, a miner and a factory worker. He faced life's challenges with courage, optimism and gentle stoicism.
A Funeral Service will be held at Westlawn Funeral Chapel 16310 Stony Plain Road on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Dr Fraser Armstrong, Dr Evan Kouros (Welland, Ontario) and the kind and caring staff of Jasper Place Continuing Care center for their compassion and support. The family kindly requests no flowers. Those who wish may direct donations in memory of Mikas's life to the University of Alberta.
