On January 31, 2013, Peter Koziak of Edmonton passed away peacefully at the age of 95 years.
Peter will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends. He is survived by his sister, Marie (Frederick) Nash; his nieces and nephews, their spouses and children, Dennis (Isabelle) Nash, Esther (Duncan) Ferguson, Craig Nash, Lydia (Todd) Mayson, Donna (Gary) Nash Brown, Mary (Richard) Nash MacKay, and Jerome Nash. Predeceased by his parents, Paul and Pearl (Kutt) Koziak; his sister, Emily Koziak; nephew, Christopher Robert Nash; niece, Theresa Joan Nash; nephew, Frederick Peter Bernard Nash; niece, Linda Marie Davies; and numerous cousins.
Peter was born March 29, 1917 in Lamont, Alberta. He received his primary and junior high schooling at Peremysl School; his grade 11 in Lamont, Alberta and finished grade 12 at St. Joseph's College in Yorkton, Saskatchewan. He obtained his first class teaching certificate at Edmonton Normal School.
From 1942 to 1945 Peter served in RCAF as an Airman. Upon returning to civilian life Peter wound up his teaching career at the Warspite School. In 1946 Peter returned to school at the University of Alberta to pursue a new career in accounting, auditing and tax law interpretation.
Peter joined the federal civil service and worked in farm audits until he retired in the 1970s. Peter enjoyed his retired life with extensive travel throughout the world, including the Ukraine, volunteering and watching his beloved Edmonton Eskimos and most other Edmonton sporting teams. He enjoyed numerous trips to the Grey Cup wherever it was held.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Dr. Gerald Zetter Care Centre staff for the excellent care and treatment they provided to Peter during his time there. The family would also like to thank the Doctors and staff at the Royal Alexandra Hospital for the compassionate care provided to Peter.
Prayers will be Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 7007- 109 Street.
Divine Liturgy Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Basil's Ukrainian Catholic Church. Basilian Fathers officiating with interment in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
