It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Sudarshan Rani Abbi on the morning of September 25, 2013. She was born in Punjab, India the fifth of six children. She married Baldev Raj Abbi and ventured with him to Canada in 1960.
Sudarshan was an amazingly hard working woman who held her family together through the death of her daughter and the brain injury of her husband. She persevered through tremendous adversity and exemplified self sacrifice. She put the well being of her family and especially her two sons first. She took great pride in their accomplishments.
Sudarshan enjoyed sewing, knitting and especially gardening. However her favourite passion was spending time with her grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart.
She was predeceased by her daughter, Poonam; daughter-in-law, Bonnie-Lee Elizabeth; her brothers, Sukdev Raj and Brahm; as well as her sister Pran. She is survived by her husband, Baldev; her sons Dr. Atam Abbi and Dr. Arun Abbi (Polly); as well as her grandchildren, James, Marsisha, Matthew and McColl.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 30, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at Hainstock's Funeral Home, 9810 - 34 Avenue, Edmonton. A Kriya ceremony will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 5:00 p.m. at the Bhartiya Cultural Society Mandir, 9507 - 39 Avenue, Edmonton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bhartiya Cultural Society.
