May 9, 1925 - October 17, 2016
Ralph Jespersen, a highly respected politician, farmer, church leader, and community builder, passed away on Monday, October 17, 2016 at the age of 91.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Bernice; his three children, Darrell (Karen) Jespersen, Debi (Clark) Mills and Delnita (Darcy) Torhjelm; his nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Ralph's life and career is filled with accolades and recognition. In addition to his political career where he sat as a Member of the Legislative Assembly in Stony Plain from 1967 - 1971, he was also inducted into the Alberta Agriculture Hall of Fame in 1995, and received the Governor General Caring Canadian Award in 2012.
As the last surviving member of his generation of Jespersens, Ralph's passing bears particular significance to the Town of Stony Plain, where he lived and volunteered his entire life. The Jespersen family was foundational to the community and Ralph's commitment to it will be felt for generations to come. Ralph was a champion for people, his church, community, province and country, but most of all, his family and his faith. Ralph leaves behind a legacy as a devoted husband, a loving, patient father, and a sweet, gracious grandfather. Always quick with a warm smile and an encouraging word, Ralph exhibited grace and love in all he did. While we are overjoyed that Ralph is now celebrating in God's presence, his presence in his family, his church and his community will be sorely missed.
A memorial service for Ralph will be held on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Stony Plain Alliance Church (4900 53 Ave).

Although in recent years we have not had much contact with the family, I remember the impact both Ralph and Bernice had on me as I was growing up in the Stony Plain Alliance youth group and church. Their home was always open. Also I respected Ralph's integrity as he served his community in so many ways.
