Lawrence HUBERDEAU Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal on Jan. 10, 2015.
HUBERDEAU, Lawrence
(Larry) Gideon
July 7, 1930 – December 29, 2014
On the morning of December 29, 2014, Lawrence "Larry" Huberdeau passed away in his home in St. Albert with his family by his side. Larry will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his wife Margaret; daughters Ysanne and Fiona (Graham); grandchildren Abigael, Gordon and Cameron; sisters Josephine (Malcolm), Yvonne and Joan; sisters-in-law Elizabeth and Corrine; many cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as numerous friends and former colleagues.
He was predeceased by his parents Napoleon and Olga; brother Patrick, Dale and Ivan (Sarto); sister-in-law Lucy; brothers-in-law Paddy, Lloyd, Bill C. and Bill S.; nephew, Raymond and niece Shannon.
Born in Edmonton, Larry spent most of his youth in Colinton, Alberta. After a short period of time in the Air Force (as a navigator) he worked on early radar warning systems in the Canadian North before beginning his career with the Alberta Forest Service in 1960. After working in a number of northern communities in Alberta, he retired in April, 1987 as the Forest Superintendent in lac La Biche…Larry had said he enjoyed every minute of those 27 years. His lifelong passion for photography resulted in the ownership of a photography business post- retirement, which was sold in 1990 and he and Margaret moved to St. Albert. Together, they enjoyed several years of travel. Larry was active in the St. Albert Photo Club for many years and was an avid reader and never lost his zest for learning or enthusiasm for new experiences. In most recent years, Larry attended the Adult Day Program at the Sturgeon Hospital twice a week, where he met great people and made friendships that meant so much. For the last 13 years, Larry's greatest joy was his three grandchildren.
Sincere "thanks" to the staff of the Sturgeon Hospital and Home Care Nursing for their care and support.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no services per Larry's wishes. Please email condolences to [email protected]. In Larry's memory, find a soft seat with a clear view and raise a good cup of coffee (SB preferred) to a kind and generous man.

My sincere condolences to the Huberdeau family Larry's passing on. I started as a forester in 1978 and the Huberdeau brothers were well on their way to becoming AFS legends! May the many memories of a memorable man fill the void he has left.

We're so sorry to hear of Lawrence's passing. He was a special friend, brother and brother-in-law to Dale and me. I'll never forget the surprise on his face when I first met him through Mr. Goff as his new sister-in-law, as Dale hadn't shared our engagement with his family as yet. It was the beginning of a warm friendship for me. Dale always held Lawrence in high esteem, enjoyed the 'banter' with him and was happy to follow in his footsteps after Lawrence introduced him to the Alberta Forest Service. Lawrence had a great sense of humour, was a kind and caring man and brightened the life of everyone around him with his wit. Our hearts go out to the family, Marg, Ysanne, Fiona,Graham and his grandchildren. Lawrence will be sadly missed by my sons Sean, Leif and me. We send our love and sincerest sympathy....
