George Giokas passed away peacefully on October 7, 2014 at the Agape Hospice at the age of 90 years.
George served in the Royal Canadian Navy May 1941 – October 1945 and was a member of the Saskatchewan Roughriders football team 1946 – 1949. George and family lived in Edmonton where he started his sales career with Westinghouse Canada, was very active in minor sports and his first wife Violet passed away in 1967. In 1970 the family moved to Calgary where he married Grace in 1977. He and Grace moved to High River in 1992. In 2011 they moved back to Calgary where Grace passed away on January 4, 2014.
George is survived by his children Richard, Gary (Karen), Gregory (Claire), Marina and Steven (Carol), his stepchildren Joan Tape, June (Jim) Cabay, Sharon (Del) Atwood, Patti (Ed) Vandenberghe, and Terry (Donna) Bradburn, several grand and great- grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents John and Calina; brothers Con, Pete and Bill; his first wife Violet Cox and his second wife Grace Bradburn (nee Rewerts).
Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W. Calgary, AB), on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. A reception to follow with details to be announced.
