It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Alan Lewis. Alan was born in Wynandotte, Michigan and raised in Deep River, Ontario. He is predeceased by his parents Sally and Paul Lewis of Deep River. Alan leaves to mourn his wife and partner of thirty-one years Kerri Lane Calvert (Edmonton), his son Ray Calvert Lewis (Victoria), sisters Christine and Marion Lewis (Toronto), his mother-in-law Vida Ross (Courtenay), sisters-in-law Colleen Leary (Union Bay), Karen Calvert (Powell River), Shannon Calvert (London), and brothers-in- law Bob Leary (Union Bay), Gary Chang (Toronto) and Nick Gilbert (London), and several nieces and nephews.
Alan graduated with a BSc (Honors Biology) from the University of Waterloo in 1974 and obtained a diploma in Computer Engineering from NAIT in 1991.The majority of his working life was spent with North West Group as an airborne sensor operator. Alan loved his job which took him all over North America and allowed him to view amazing sites from the air. Alan showed great love for his family and was a wonderful husband, father, son and brother.
He enjoyed all outdoor pursuits; his passion was cross country skiing and he participated in the Canadian Birkebeiner Cross Country Ski Festival every year. He also enjoyed racing in the Kananaskis Ski Marathon.
Alan's great personal strength, fortitude and humour during the course of his illness made life easier for all who loved him, and allowed him to be cared for at home.
Kerri and Ray would like to thank family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues, and health service workers for their compassion and support during Alan's illness. Special thanks to the five Calvert/Lewis sisters, Fred Welter (North West Group), Indrani Young (Alberta Health Services), Dr. Trent Dusang (Synergy Wellness Centre), and Deb and Jay Brandly.
Alan was cremated as per his wishes, and a family celebration of his life will be held on Vancouver Island at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be sent to the Canadian Birkebeiner Cross Country Ski Festival.
