Fred was born in Viking Alberta on November 1, 1921. At the age of 18 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Airforce and served overseas as a bomber navigator. On returning he finished his high school education and went on to get a masters degree in agricultual science from the University of Alberta.
Fred was married to Peggy Dawson on August 21, 1948 and they enjoyed 54 years of married life together.
Fred worked as a research scientist for the federal Department of Agriculture in St. John's Newfoundland for 28 years. After retiring he bought a farm and continued his passion for farming for 10 years before returning to his roots in Alberta and settling in Leduc.
While in Newfoundland he developed a passionate interest in traditoinal Newfoundlad music and served on the executive of the St. John's Folk Arts Council. In Leduc, he was also actively involved with the congregation of St. Pauls Anglican Church.
Fred is survived by his two sons Michael and David, his four siblings Joyce, Hugh, Tom and Fay, and other family and friends.
Fred is preceded in death by his wife Peggy and his brothers Alfred and Ken.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to St. Pauls Church. The family wishes to thank the congregation of St. Pauls Church for their loving support.
