December 17, 1950 - January 24, 2013
On Thursday, January 24, 2013 Anne Marie (nee Murray) Fitzgerald passed away peacefully at home.
Anne is predeceased by her parents, Lizzie and Patsy Murray and her granddaughter Aveline Fitzgerald. Anne is survived by her husband Maurice Fitzgerald, her children Marie (Thomas) Field and Brendan (Pachy) Fitzgerald, her brother Ian (Diane) Murray, her four grandsons, Charlie, Gabriel, Damien and Michael, and countless friends and family.
Anne was born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England on December 17, 1950. She spent her summers in Draperstown, County Derry in Ireland and identified herself as Irish. In England, Anne's second home was her Aunt Rose and Uncle Paddy Bradley's which was a kind of Ceili house. Aunt Rose took in Irishmen in need of a meal, one of whom was Maurice Fitzgerald. Maurice and Anne fell in love and were married in Rochdale in 1971. The next year, the adventurous couple moved to Canada intent on staying for two years, but became full fledged Canadians and remained despite the winters.
When Anne was 26 years old, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, MS. Anne carried herself with poise, grace, and joy and has been an inspiration to innumerable people; friends, family, and strangers. Sheri Davis lived as an indispensable caregiver and friend to Anne and the family for more than 20 years. The family gives thanks to the many doctors, nurses and caregivers that have assisted over the years. Anne had a fierce zest for life, a lively sense of humour, adored her family and grandchildren and truly lived until she died.
