CUTHBERTSON, Vivian Audrey
November 17, 1926 - January 16, 2013
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Audrey Cuthbertson announce her passing the morning of January 16, 2013 at the age of 86, sooner than we would have wished.
Audrey will be dearly remembered by her husband of sixty-two years, Bob; daughters Joanne Cuthbertson (Charlie Fischer) and Barb McNamara (Glenn); and her grandchildren Kate and Lindsay Fischer and Kirk and Jimmy McNamara. She was predeceased by her siblings Ken, Virginia, Norma, Darrell, and Leila.
Audrey grew up in Edmonton and moved to Calgary with Bob in 1954 to make Calgary her home. She always was looked up to by her daughters, and ultimately by her sons-in-law and her grandchildren, for all that she was. She will mostly be remembered as a conscientious wife, "Mom" and "Granny", who was proud of her always orderly, welcoming homes, but, being a subtle feminist and prolific reader, she will also be fondly remembered for the lively and varied conversations that she encouraged and loved to be a part of. With her A.R.T.C. (Piano) from the Royal Conservatory of Music, Audrey taught piano out of her home while raising her family, really appreciating the time to tease and talk with her pupils while sharing what she could musically. Loving the social and competitive offerings of athletics, she and Bob pursued racquet sports for several years, making many special friends. It was with great enthusiasm and conviction that Audrey went back to the University of Calgary in 1973 to obtain her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) Degree in Religious Studies "With Distinction". Retirement years were filled with forging friendships with fellow travelers on University of Calgary trips, hosting special summers with grandchildren at the Windermere cabin, pursuing and supporting the arts in Calgary, and playing bridge and "aquasizing" with much loved friends.
Friends are invited to join the family for a celebration of Audrey's life at 3:00 pm on Friday, January 25, at the Glencoe Club (636-29th Avenue SW, Calgary, AB).
